About Malcolm Johnson
Malcolm Johnson qualified as a solicitor in 1994 and he is a Senior Solicitor at Hudgell Solicitor where he is the head of the Child Abuse Compensation Claims department. He is a member of the Law Society's Personal Injury Panel and a Fellow of APIL.
Malcolm specialises in child abuse compensation claims. He is a founder member of the Association of Child Abuse Lawyers and he is at present working on the third edition of “Child Abuse Compensation Claims” to be published in 2020. Malcolm also supports the charity Coram Voice, where he advises children in care and care leavers. His book "Complaints for Advocates in England" was published by Pavilion in 2018 and he is working on a new book about careleavers' rights.
Malcolm has appeared on radio and television to talk about his work. He represents a number of Core Participants in the Lambeth strand of the Independent Inquiry into Child Sexual Abuse as well as many former children in the care of Lambeth.
Malcolm is a solicitor advocate. He has represented Claimants at trial, at inquests, before the Upper Tier Tribunal and the Court of Appeal. He was the Claimant's advocate in the following cases:-
ABC v P [2011] EWHC 1953 (QB) - freezing injunction in case involving allegations of voyeurism
VN & SN v Brent and Others [2016] EWHC 936 (QB) - claim by foster children
Y v First-tier Tribunal & CICA [2017] EWCA Civ 139 - claim to the CICA for genetic damage caused by incest
