ACTION MEDICAL RESEARCH

13/10/2021 Added by YG

Action Medical Research is a UK wide charity committed to fighting for children’s lives. We do this by funding groundbreaking medical research to help find answers. Over the last 65 years we have played a part in some of the most significant medical breakthroughs in recent history.

Despite enormous progress in medicine, tragically there are still some children who need your help. Like the two hundred and thirty children who die from cancer each year in the UK and the one thousand premature babies who don’t survive.

So we’re fighting back. Parents. Children. Families. Communities. We’re all working together to fund medical research that could go on to benefit millions. But we can’t do this alone.

Children depend on Action Medical Research. We depend on you. Please help us fund more research - taking small steps, making big breakthroughs.

Together we are unstoppable. Join the fight today.

CHILD BRAIN INJURY TRUST

The Child Brain Injury Trust was established by a group of health professionals in 1991 to research and provide information regarding the effects of ‘traumatic’ injury on a child’s developing brain.

Parents of children with acquired brain injury were keen to become actively involved with the charity and over time the emphasis on the work changed.

Today the Child Brain Injury Trust is the leading voluntary sector organisation providing emotional and practical support, information and learning opportunities for families and professionals affected by childhood acquired brain injury across the UK.

We work across England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland and have a dedicated team of professional staff and volunteers who give their expertise, commitment and energy every day.

Families continue to be involved in the development of the charity and we continue to be amazed and enlightened by their resilience and strength.

CHILDREN'S CANCER AND LEUKAEMIA GROUP (CCLG)

03/11/2021 Added by YG

Children’s Cancer and Leukaemia Group is a leading children’s cancer charity and the UK and Ireland’s professional association for those involved in the treatment and care of children with cancer. Each week in the UK and Ireland, more than 30 children are diagnosed with cancer. Two out of ten children will not survive their disease.

Over the last 40 years, CCLG has played a key role in the major improvements in survival rates and the standards of care for children. We bring together childhood cancer professionals to ensure all children receive the best possible treatment and care.

There are still some childhood cancers with a poor outlook, and many treatments can have long-lasting side effects. Further research is therefore vital, and the ultimate aim of CCLG is to cure as many children as possible while reducing the short and long-term side effects of treatment. We fund and support research into childhood cancers, and we help young patients and their families with our expert, high quality and award-winning information resources.

We receive no permanent funding and are reliant on our valued supporters to continue our vital work.

Children and older people are most at risk of developing this common serious neurological condition but anyone can develop epilepsy at any time, and 8 people a day in Scotland do. We want to make sure the needs of people with epilepsy are met. This is why we campaign for improved healthcare, better information provision and an end to stigma

HEADWAY THE BRAIN INJURY ASSOCIATION

About Headway – the brain injury association

Each year, around 350,000 people are admitted to hospital in the UK with an acquired brain injury. That’s one every 90 seconds.

Most of these people will need some form of help or support in rebuilding their lives or regaining a degree of independence. And that’s where Headway comes in.

Headway is the UK-wide charity that supports people affected by brain injury, from supporting families at the hospital bedside, through to helping people relearn the basic life skills they once took for granted.

Through its network of more than 125 groups and branches across the UK and a range of frontline services, the charity provides support, services and information to brain injury survivors, their families and carers, as well as to professionals in the health and legal fields.

In addition, the charity provides a directory of approved solicitors that for 15 years has been an invaluable source of information to those requiring legal representation from lawyers with expertise in brain injury.

With all contacts within the directory undergoing Headway training and agreeing to work within the charity’s Personal Injury Lawyers Code of Conduct, the guide provides reassurance to families that they will receive high-quality specialist representation.

For more information about brain injury and the support provided by Headway, or for details about how to apply for the Headway Head Injury Solicitors Directory, visit www.headway.org.uk.

MATT HAMPSON FOUNDATION

Our aim is to provide advice, support, relief and/or treatment for anyone suffering serious injury or disability which has arisen from any cause, but in particular from participation in or training for any sport, sporting activity or other form of physical education or recreation. We mainly assist people who have received such injuries in the United Kingdom and the Republic of Ireland but that does not preclude us from helping those in other parts of the world who need urgent assistance. We assist individuals by offering direct grants or by paying into existing and future funds to assist with equipment, technology or just every day expenses. We also assist organisations and institutions whose aims are similar to our own and who also provide relief and treatment to those who have suffered injuries as described above. Through Matt Hampson, the Foundation is also able to offer mentoring, friendship and education. Very often a chat with somebody such as Matt who has been through it, 'got the t-shirt' and overcome many issues himself is the best assistance that injured people can get. Matt's educational visits to schools and clubs provide understanding and can be extremely motivational to those who hear him talk about his experiences and his zest for life. If you would like to know more about the Foundation, its aims or you would like to know more about Matt's educational visits, contact [email protected] for further details.

PEOPIL
PILGRIM BANDITS

The mantra ‘Always a Little Further’ is core to the charity’s attitude, whether working with injured men and women from the Military or Emergency Services directly or by utilising their experiences to inspire and encourage young people and children. Pilgrim Bandits don’t do sympathy, but offer the rewards of belonging to a team, encouragement, belief and the power of humour over pain. Bandits’ primary aim is to help those in need directly, with no compromise. Soon, those who needed help become those that give it. By pushing injured men and women into physically and mentally demanding situations that they would not have dreamed possible; kayaking extraordinary distances, jumping from aircraft, running races, trekking across inhospitable terrain, self confidence is restored and self-belief instilled – Always a Little Further. Pilgrim Bandits pushes those that have already endured so much to go beyond endurance – to embrace life again and in so doing inspire others.

RAPLH BATES PANCREATIC CANCER RESEARCH FUND

10/08/2021 Added by YG
Pancreatic cancer is a most debilitating and aggressive illness. It is the fourth most common cause of cancer-related death across the globe. It does not discriminate between sexes. It doesn’t care if you’re famous, poor, wealthy or otherwise. Victims generally have a short life span once diagnosis is confirmed, with only 20% living beyond one year. Between 1971 and 2007 ten year survival rates increased from just 1.9% to 2.8% and are still only 3% (see chart on last page). Pancreatic cancer is effectively at the bottom of the league table of improvements in survival rates and whilst it is encouraging to see the level of improvement in survival rates in other cancers, it goes to show just how much we still have to do to find a cure for pancreatic cancer. Research receives no direct government support apart from Gift Aid on qualifying donations and consequently, all funding must be sought from private means.

Our Fund supports research at St George’s University of London and other university hospitals, into causes and cures for this terrible cancer. Over 90% of all donations we receive is spent on charitable causes. The Trustees receive no remuneration or expense reimbursement.

THE SHAW MIND FOUNDATION

The Shaw Mind Foundation is a dynamic charity, passionate about tackling the stigma that can accompany mental health issues. Our overarching goal is to support anyone who may have lost hope; both the sufferer and those who support them.

We want to ensure treatment and support is made available to everyone across the globe. Working in the USA, UK and in other countries around the world, our awareness-raising programme challenges many of the myths and assumptions about mental health issues.

We believe recovery is possible for many who are currently not getting the help they need. This is where The Shaw Mind Foundation makes a difference; we don’t want people to continue to slip through the net because they have to wait for care, don’t have funds to access life-saving treatment, or live in an area or country that can’t currently access mental health recovery programmes.

Mental health doesn’t discriminate; neither should geography or financial status.

Please take a look at our fundraising page for news on what the Shaw Mind Foundation is up to, and to find out how you can get involved.
