About Alison Hills
Alison is a Senior Associate Solicitor-Advocate. She is an experienced Lawyer who is accredited by APIL as a Senior Litigator and has specialised in this area of law for over a decade.
She commenced her legal career in 2004 in personal injury litigation (predominantly RTA claims) and then diversified her practice into the fields of clinical negligence and mental health in 2009. She achieved Law Society Accreditation for mental health in 2011 shortly before qualifying as a Solicitor and this allowed her to represent patients detained under the Mental Health Act 1983 at First-Tier Tribunal hearings, including at High Secure units such as Ashworth and Broadmoor.
She continued to practice in both fields of law until 2016 and has solely focused her career on clinical negligence since then. She has however developed a niche in cases involving both elements of clinical negligence and mental health. This has included a number of cases involving failures of community care resulting in preventable suicide.
She achieved her civil Higher Rights of Audience in 2017 and APIL Senior Litigator accreditation in 2020 and has vast experience with a variety of medical negligence cases including the following:
- Delayed cancer diagnosis
- Bowel and uterus surgical perforations
- Obstetric and Gynaecological injury
- Negligent Orthopaedic Surgery
- Fatal medical accidents
- Spinal cord injury
- Sepsis cases involving multiple limb amputation
- Ophthalmic injury resulting in permanent loss of vision
She has also assisted on birth injury cases of high complexity leading to Cerebral Palsy and Erb’s Palsy (with a value of up to £20m)
Outside of work, she is a keen ski racer. She is part of the British Masters Ski Team and was placed 2nd overall in her age group in the FIS Masters World Cup series for the 2019-2020 season. She is also a keen runner, having competed in a number of events from 5k up to full marathon distance and is also an England Athletics qualified run leader.
