Andrew is a Partner at National Law Firm Leigh Day, and heads the Southwest asbestos team at the Plymouth and Bristol Offices.
Andrew has been working in the legal profession for 30 years and qualified as a Solicitor in 1996, since that time has has practised exclusively in the field of Personal Injury. For well over 20 years he has specialised in Mesothelioma and Asbestos claims on behalf of patients and their families, and has successully settled hundreds of Asbestos claims. He is nationally regarded as a well-known and highly qualified legal expert in Southwest England, having been at the forefront of mesothelioma claims involving Devonport Dockyard.
He is a Fellow of APIL, and an APIL Accredited Asbestos Disease and Occupational Disease Specialist.
He spent 10 years at Bond Pearce (now Womble Bond Dickinson) in Plymouth, where he headed the Industrial Disease Team and concentrated on Asbestos claims involving Devonport Dockyard. He then became a Partner at Thrings, then Director for 10 years at Novum Law where he headed and led the Asbestos and Industrial Disease Team, and supervised work in Plymouth, Bristol, Cardiff and Southampton. He then joined National and leading law firm Leigh Day as a Partner based at the Plymouth office.
He continues to act solely on behalf of asbestos victims throughout the South West. He has extensive experience of all types of asbestos claims, and has led many high profile campaigns to highlight the injustices suffered by asbestos sufferers. This has included a campaign to highlight the link between asbestos and lung cancer, and to show the injustice caused by the Crown Proceedings Act 1987 on behalf of service personnel.
He has written and published many National Asbestos articles and regularly appears on TV and radio, and in the press to comment on asbestos developments. He has previously provided National Asbestos Masterclass Training to other Lawyers. He regularly provides asbestos training to local nurses and medical professionals
In 2011 he negotiated the provisional settlement of a groundbreaking case involving asbestosis being caused by secondary exposure through Devonport Dockyard in Plymouth. He has dealt with many successful claims involing people who contract mesothelioma after coming into contact with the dust from the clothes or overalls of family members.
He has also settled many mesothelioma claims to allow for the cost of future treatment to be recovered, such as immunotherapy costs.
He has supported local and national asbestos charities and support groups for many years, incluidng the South West Asbestos Support and Awareness Group (SWASAG), and regularly attends meetings and gatherings to support asbestos patients and their familes. He has been involved in many fundraising activities and continues to campaign for proper justice for asbestos patients.
