About Lucy Small
Lucy joined Lanyon Bowdler's Clinical Negligence Department in October 2010 and leads the firm’s department of medical negligence lawyers in Hereford. She became a partner in 2013. Lucy has over 25 years’ experience in both clinical negligence claims and personal injury claims litigation acting solely for the victim.
She is a member of the Association of Personal Injury Lawyers where she is recognised as a senior litigator and is a member of the AvMA (Action Against Medical Accidents) Specialist Clinical Negligence Panel. Together with the team at Lanyon Bowdler she is a Member of the Society of Clinical Injury Solicitors (SCIL)
Lucy has considerable experience in dealing with complex high value clinical negligence claims, including birth Injury claims (inclusive of brain injury and cerebral palsy claims), surgery negligence claims (with particular specialisms in cosmetic surgery negligence, cardiac surgery negligence, gynaecology negligence claims, neurology negligence claims, ophthalmology negligence claims, and surgical spinal cord injury claims).
Lucy also has significant experience in dealing with cancer negligence claims, sepsis claims, GP negligence claims, diabetes negligence claims, and fatal medical negligence claims.
Her rigorous and focused approach, leading to admissions of liability and securing substantial interim payments to enable optimisation of rehabilitation as the matter continues.
Lucy has also developed a niche practice in fatal and serious injury cases involving preventable suicide and attempted suicide in psychiatric units and in the community. She is involved throughout the process including representation at inquests including Article 2 cases, offering advice, experience, care and support to the bereaved.
Lucy combines professionalism and expertise with empathy and compassion. She is considered by clients to be a “knowledgeable, warm and approachable person” with the clients’ wellbeing at the heart of her practice.
