What Mary's client's say:-
"The case was complex and the journey through the legal system arduous. We would never have managed without the help of Mary. We always had the experience of feeling listened to and respected, which we had not had through the service we were taking action against. We always felt Mary was on our side, which never swayed. There was no pre judgement from her. Instead, steady legal arguments that may be presented from the 'other side'. The case was well managed throughout and at each important point we were always informed. The expertise is quite simply clever and knowledgeable. On a more personal level I thought Mary really wanted to help, which is a difficult balance to maintain alongside being professional. She succeeded with this every time." [Clinical negligence claim]
"The level of service offered by Mary Smith was better than I could have imagined. Her level of compassion, understanding and advice was more than someone would be expected to give if it was just a job." [Nursing home negligence, Inquest, Human Rights claim]
"I could not have been in better hands. Not only did Mary ensure that the costs of my treatment were covered as we went through the process, I also benefited from Mary being able to arrange treatments with highly skilled experts which ensured I had the best possible outcome. This allowed me to be able to concentrate on my recovery without any added pressures, making the process as stress free as possible." [Complex personal injury claim]
What colleagues say about Mary:-
"Mary is a fantastic and experienced clinical negligence lawyer. I've worked with Mary for many years on a range of cases, many of which have been particularly complicated, particularly tragic or both. She has exemplary attention to detail and genuinely cares about her clients - each of whom is treated as an individual with enormous compassion and respect. It's been an absolute pleasure to be instructed by Mary, and I would recommend her wholeheartedly." [Eloise Power, Barrister, Serjeants' Inn Chambers]
"I have worked with Mary for several years now on mental health Clinical Negligence cases, and I have always been very impressed. She is an excellent, clear and efficient communicator, with a good eye both for the big picture and the fine detail; and she is absolutely committed not just to her clients, but to using Clinical Negligence cases to drive up healthcare standards. I have recommended her to several patients who have needed legal advice, and will not hesitate to do so in the future." [Dr Charles Musters, Expert Psychiatrist]
"Mary has instructed me as a barrister in relation to a number of inquests and clinical negligence actions over the years. The cases have been complex, often raising difficult issues under Article 2 of the European Convention on Human Rights and unfailingly involving complicated medical evidence. These cases have invariably been of significant value and extremely important for the clients whom she represents. Mary’s preparation of these cases has been timely and excellent. Mary has always thought through the issues in an individual case and thought ahead. The witness statements she prepares and instructions she takes are thorough, detailed and relevant. Mary also makes very good professional judgments. Her tactical instincts are very sound, and she knows when to consult and discuss more difficult issues. Mary is always calm. She is always a pleasure to work with. When I meet Mary’s clients, they are also very well prepared. They have a good understanding of the issues and the difficulties in the case. They clearly feel comfortable with and confident in Mary. She has always taken the time and the trouble to build up a rapport with her clients. Some of these clients have had significant mental health problems and are vulnerable. Winning and keeping their confidence cannot have been easy. I have seen Mary successfully guide quite traumatised clients through some very difficult cases, and other clients through some very challenging times in their cases." [Nick Brown, Barrister, Doughty Street Chambers].
"I had the pleasure of being instructed by Mary on a complex PI claim where Fundamental Dishonesty was raised. We were successful at the end of a 2 day trial on all aspects of the claim. Mary was fantastic in the preparation of the claim, identifying all the issues and exploring the evidence required to deal with the issues raised by the Defendant. Mary's client care was brilliant. A pleasure to work with and would highly recommend Mary." [Michelle Marnham, Barrister, 3PB]
