About Michael Laffey
I am a solicitor and I work in the Newcastle office of Burnetts.
I have a particular interest in cases involving brain injuries, amputations or ENT injures such as loss of taste, and/or smell. I deal with all kinds of cases such as workplace accidents, public liability claims and road traffic accidents.
I have developed close links with various rehabilitation and treatment providers, such as one of the market leading prosthetic suppliers. I have, for example, obtained numerous prosthetic fingers for clients typically injured in accidents involving machinery. I take great pride in helping them disguise with their injuries by obtaining cosmetic, or even functional, replacements.
I firmly believe that putting the claimant back in the position they would have been had they not have had their accident is about treatment and rehabilitation as much as the financial compensation package at the end.
I have appeared in the Court of Appeal twice over my career and I have obtained a CICA “maximum award” in a case involving a brain injured child. I became his trustee thereafter. I am an APIL (Association of Personal Injury Lawyers) accredited Senior Litigator, a status I have held for over fifteen years.
I have recovered tens of millions of pounds for clients over my career and enjoy being in the privileged position of being able to help people in a vulnerable position. At Burnetts we never forget who’s side we are on.
In my spare time I enjoy spending time with my family. I love watching football and I have held a season ticket for Newcastle United for over 30 years. I also enjoy participating in the Great North Run in my racing wheelchair.
