About Patrick Walsh
I am a Partner in Leigh Day solicitors , London.
I have specialised in industrial disease claims, and in particular asbestos related illness, since 1987.
My main areas of specialism include
• Mesothelioma
• Asbestos related lung cancer
• Asbestosis
• Pleural thickening
As an expert in the field, I am frequently asked to provide media commentary in relation to asbestos disease and mesothelioma issues.
I also have considerable experience in dealing with all other areas of industrial disease including illnesses caused by chemicals and other dusts and fibres.
i have lectured on a number of professionally accredited courses, including those for APIL, LexisNexis and The Expert Witness Institute.
I acted for the claimant, Mrs Fox, in the Fairchild case in the Court of Appeal and the House of Lords. This was the leading case on causation of mesothelioma.
I also acted for the claimant in Maguire v Harland & Wolff. This was a leading Court of Appeal case on date of knowledge of mesothelioma regarding wives washing their husband’s overalls.
I acted for the claimant in the Court of Appeal and High Court in the case of Henenghan v Manchester Dry Dock which established the principles of causation applying to asbestos related lung cancer cases.
My recent work includes representing the estate of a man who died from lung cancer, allegedly as a result of exposure to asbestos dust throughout the course of his working life by various different employers.
I have also been instructed by the Forum of Asbestos Support Groups in their intervention in the case of IEG v Zurich UK in the Supreme Court.
