About Sara Burns
Partner and APIL Clinical Negligence specialist in complex clinical negligence cases. Sara heads up a team of 11, which is one of five teams in the Birmingham department specialising solely in clinical negligence.
She has experience in claims involving all types of injury with a range of values. Sara has particular interest in obstetric and birth injury claims and has extensive experience of "wrongful birth" claims. She has successfully concluded many multimillion pound claims in her almost 27 years of experience as a claimant clinical negligence lawyer. She is committed to securing the rehabilitation her clients need and has secured some substantial interim payments to provide rehabilitation packages, accommodation, and care to enhance her clients’ lives.
Her notable cases include: Spencer v Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust – Cerebral palsy claim with liability entered at 75% and settled at £2,715,000 together with periodical payments of £116,000 pa until age 19 and £157,000 thereafter; O’Reggio v The Royal Wolverhampton NHS Trust - cerebral palsy claim with liability entered at 80% and settled at £2,450,000 together with periodical payments of £100,000 pa until age 19 and £160,000 thereafter; Canning-Kishver v City Hospital NHS Trust – successful trial on liability in neonatal claim leading to brain injury with a settlement of £1.8m capital sum with periodical payments to age 18 years of £70,000 per annum and £90,000 thereafter; Nixon v Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust - a cerebral palsy claim with liability entered at 85% and a settlement of £2m capital sum with periodical payments to age 11 of £50,000 per annum, to age 22 years of £64,000 per annum and £124,000 thereafter; Khairule v North West SHA - £2m settlement in birth injury claim following successful trial on limitation.
