About Tinaben Patel
Tina is an associate solicitor in Leigh Day’s product safety and consumer law department. She is an experienced litigator who specialises in defective products, cosmetic injury and food safety claims including representing families at inquests.
Tina has extensive experience of group actions and currently co-manages a team of lawyers alongside partner, Michelle Victor which represents over 600 individuals who have suffered catastrophic injury from early failure of the now recalled DePuy ASR metal on metal hip replacements.
Tina also undertakes claims arising from food safety issues including representing families at inquests. She is part of the team that represented the family of Natasha Ednan-Laperouse at the inquest into her death after eating a Pret a Manger sandwich on a British Airways flight from London to Nice in July 2016. Tina is passionate about promoting food safety and has written various blogs and articles on the issue to promote awareness and holding multi-national corporations accountable for breaches of food safety regulations.
In addition to medical device and food safety claims, Tina also represents individuals who have suffered a variety of injuries as a consequence of the use of cosmetic products including hair dye. She has successfully bought a claim on behalf of a client who was hospitalised following an anaphylaxis reaction to a hair dye which contained PPD. Tina also has expertise in claims arising from cosmetic products containing Methylisothiazolinone and bought a successful claim against Clarins on behalf of a client who suffered from long-term dermatological problems. Tina is currently representing a group of women who have all suffered facial burn injuries following use of the now unavailable Boots Smooth Care Hair lightening cream.
Before joining Leigh Day in 2011, Tina trained and qualified in a regional firm where she represented individuals in both civil and commercial litigation matters, personal injury, and provided representation at inquests. She has been involved in a number of high profile claims including the ‘Toxic Sofa’ claims against the Home Retail Group, as well as a claim against Microsoft for the supply of allegedly faulty consumer products.
