About Tom Gough
I qualified as a solicitor in 2011, and joined Irwin Mitchell as an Associate in June 2017.
I work on a variety of cases where patients have suffered significant injuries, including:
- Claims involving a death
- Gynaecology cases
- Delay in the diagnosis of cancer
- Surgical injuries
- Spinal injury cases
- Orthopaedic cases
- Injuries to children at birth
I manage my own varied caseload, and assist senior members of the team with complex injuries involving cerebral palsy and other birth acquired brain injuries.
What Inspired You To Get Into Law?
A career in law for me has always been about obtaining justice for vulnerable individuals. I enjoy ending the day having helped improve someone's life. Victims of medical negligence have often been through the worst event of their lives, and I enjoy working hard to redress that.
What Is The Most Rewarding Aspect Of Your Role?
I enjoy seeing the improvements we can bring about through claims to our clients' lives. We can make real and material contributions to help clients get back to where they should be, or provide the support they need to recover. I enjoy holding hospitals and surgeons to account and getting clients the acknowledgement and apologies they deserve.
What Do You Do Away From The Office?
In my spare time I enjoy being with my family, going on holiday and trying to keep fit!
