Hugh Johnson

Partner, Stewarts

Hugh Johnson is a partner at the London office of Stewarts.  He has been Co-ordinator of the APIL spinal injuries special interest group since 2018, having previously been secretary of the group for a number of years.

Hugh trained with a large regional firm in Surrey, qualifying in 2005.  He undertook a range of personal injury and clinical claims, before moving to Stewarts.  Hugh has now worked solely in the healthcare litigation field for more than 10 years and has been an APIL member from the outset of his career.  

Hugh specialises in catastrophic clinical negligence claims, with particular interest in failures to treat and injury claims involving the management of pre-existing mental health conditions.  He works almost exclusively with claims involving spinal cord injury.  

He has been independently ranked in the Legal 500, Super Lawyers and in the Chambers and Partners Guide, the latter noting that his "distinguished reputation for his work on high-value and complex cases involving psychiatric disorders, spinal cord injury and brain injury." 

Hugh is a passionate sportsman and regularly competes in sporting events for charity, most recently cycling from London to Paris with a team of hand cyclists for the spinal injuries charity Back Up.
