John Moore-Gillon qualified in medicine with a starred distinction from the University of Cambridge. After postgraduate medical training he was appointed to the staff of St Bartholomew’s Hospital in 1988 where he spent over 20 years, becoming emeritus consultant physician at St Bartholomew’s and the Royal London Hospitals. He remains in independent medical practice at King Edward VII’s Hospital, London, and also has a large medico-legal practice in the field of occupational lung disease. In addition to his clinical and medico-legal work, he maintains a busy and active teaching and lecturing programme, in both the postgraduate medical and legal fields. A past president of the British Lung Foundation, he currently chairs the Strategy Group overseeing the Mesothelioma Research Network of the Foundation and is a member of the Scientific Advisory Board of the National Mesothelioma Research Centre, Imperial College.

John has prepared in excess of 4,500 reports in individual medico-legal cases, and strives to maintain a balance of claimant and defendant work. He has been involved in most of those cases involving asbestos which have reached the English Court of Appeal and the UK Supreme Court in recent years. He has substantial experience in large class actions involving occupational lung diseases, environmental risks to lung health, and tuberculosis and related mycobacterial infections. His practice is international and, outside UK jurisdictions, he has in the past three years advised on the medical management of such issues on four continents.
