Stephen Farnfield

I have worked as an Independent Financial Adviser since 2010. Having started out in the industry as a general financial planner and investment adviser to high net worth  individuals, I moved in 2012 to focus on the specialist area of advice to vulnerable people. I am currently a specialist Chartered Financial Planner and Expert Witness at Frenkel Topping.

My role is twofold, 50% is spent assisting with the legal action to secure damages and 50% is spent assisting people post-settlement to make sure their money lasts. I provide financial advice and guidance throughout the litigation process and thereafter. I assist injured parties and their legal teams to ensure they receive the appropriate level and structure of award. I joined Frenkel Topping in October 2014
to work with the most knowledgeable and well-respected firm within this specialist financial advice marketplace. As mentioned, my work is split evenly between providing Expert Witness services during litigation and Financial Advice post-settlement. In the Expert Witness field I focus on pension loss, loss of earnings, accommodation funding and form of awards (Periodical Payment Orders v lump sum). I also travel the country providing training for personal injury and clinical negligence teams.

With regard to post-settlement my focus is on minimising risk for claimants, whilst ensuring their awards are working hard and are structured in such a way that best supports their objectives. It is a pleasure for me to assist claimants both pre and post-settlement, building strong relationships that last for many years.

I have first-hand experience of how family life can be affected as a result of clinical negligence, as my younger brother was born with cerebral palsy because of his mismanaged birth. Growing up with a disabled brother was at times challenging but also very rewarding. I have empathy and a real understanding of the pressures and frustrations for families facing these issues. My brother is an adult now and as a family we are still fighting to ensure he receives the right entitlements.
