Jodi Newton

Jodi is a highly experienced dedicated clinical negligence solicitor with 20 years’ experience. She was appointed in June 2021 as an AvMA  (Action against Medical Accidents) Clinical Negligence Panel member, as well as gaining the Law Society panel membership. She is a dedicated supporter of AvMA, her work with them included volunteering on their helpline.

Jodi has acted for many years as an expert clinical negligence solicitor. She has a successful practice as a specialist in birth negligence cases about which she is passionate. She prides herself on providing a personal and sensitive service and using her wealth of experience to advocate for her clients who have tragically lost a baby or child and for families with children who have suffered life-changing brain injuries, particularly children with Cerebral Palsy and Erb’s palsy injuries.

Jodi is recognised by her peers as someone who is adept at handling complex and sensitive matter with empathy and confidence. She is committed to ensuring her clients receive the very best packages for life-long care and support.

During her career, Jodi has dealt with a broad variety of complex cases including misdiagnosis leading to amputations and DVT, cancer misdiagnosis, spinal injuries, nursing errors, gynaecological injuries, plastic surgery errors, and organ transplant surgery. She has wide experience of inquests.

She has been successful in securing significant levels of damages for her clients who have suffered serious negligence and is skilled at negotiating settlements and in navigating the court process.

Jodi is recognised by the Legal 500 Legal Directory and is an APIL (Association of Personal Injury Lawyers) accredited Senior Litigator. In September 2021 Jodi was appointed a member of the SCIL (Society of Clinincal Negligence Lawyers) Executive Committee.

She has recently joined the Personal Injury and Clinical Negligence Editorial Board of a leading legal online legal publisher.

In 2022 following publication of the Ockenden report on the Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust maternity scandal, Jodi was interviewed by Channel 4 news discussing her views on the report and to speak about her client’s negligent care under Shrewsbury. The impact of the substantial damages achieved for a cerebral palsy client featured on ITV. Jodi has also appeared on the BBC news to speak on a successful inquest which led to changes in NHS Trust protocols relating to the diagnosis of DVTs. She also appeared on the BBC and ITV news to contribute commentary on her case involving a client who had received an infected transplanted kidney. Those cases also appeared in the national press.

Jodi graduated with a law degree from the University of Manchester and began her career with Bolt Burden Kemp before moving to RIAA Barker Gillette where she spent 11 years and headed the firm’s medical negligence and personal injury department.

In her spare time Jodi enjoys playing the piano, spending time with her family, and is an Arsenal supporter.
