Fraser McLeod

Retired Consultant Gynaecologist and Obstetrician, Spire Bristol Hospital 

Fraser is a retired consultant gynaecologist and obstetrician at the Spire Bristol Hospital and a fellow of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists.  Fraser was appointed as consultant obstetrician and gynaecologist at Frenchay and Southmead Hospitals, Bristol in February 1985 retiring from his NHS position and obstetric practice in early 2015 but continuing in private gynaecological practice for a further 3 years.  Fraser’s clinical interests are in all forms of minimal access surgery, vaginal, laparoscopic and hysteroscopic.  He was his former Trust’s lead in hysteroscopic surgery and a founder member of the British Society for Gynaecological Endoscopy. For more than 10 years he was chairman of the Spire Bristol Hospital Medical Advisory Committee.

Fraser has always had an active interest and involvement in medical teaching and post-graduate training and was the Severn Deanery Training Program Director. He has lectured widely to medical audiences and taught on several courses in obstetrics and gynaecology for lawyers.

Fraser has undertaken medico legal work since 1990 and has prepared more than 3,000 reports since then for claimants, defendants and under joint instruction.  He has assisted Her Majesty’s Coroner and advised on General Medical Council Fitness to Practice cases.

Fraser is a faculty member in Practical Obstetric Multi-Professional Training (PROMPT) course, which has worldwide resulted in significant reductions in Obstetric adverse outcome.  Fraser is a member of the Expert Witness Institute.  He has published on medical report writing in the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologist Continuing Medical Education Journal and on “Medico-legal Issues in Operative Vaginal Birth” in the RCOG Obstetrics Simulation Course Manual.

Fraser is a keen golfer and a former Captain and President of the National Medical Golf Society, regularly playing in the annual medical golf match against the American doctors.  He enjoys good food and fine wine and spending time with his wife and two children.
