James acts in cases involving accidents abroad and international class actions. He is a contributor to the ‘Accidents Abroad’ chapter of Butterworths Personal Injury Litigation Service and a general editor of the International & Travel Law Blog. He was instructed by the claimants in Vilca and Others v Xstrata Ltd and by the FCO in the Kenyan Emergency Group Litigation. He acts for and against the major tour operators in package travel claims and represents claimants and defendants in cases governed by the international transport conventions.

James is particularly interested in the legal challenges associated with emerging technologies and gives presentations on comparative approaches to the regulation of driverless cars, drones, and electric vehicles across the EU.
