James Gibson is a partner at Hugh James in Cardiff. James has more than 13 years of experience in pursuing industrial disease claims and has acted in a number of multi-party actions representing hundreds of claimants with respiratory disease and cancer.
James was a lead solicitor in the Phurnacite Workers Group Litigation (Jones and Others v Secretary of State for Energy and Climate Change and Coal Products Limited [2012] EWHC 2936 (QB)), the British Coal Coke Workers Group Litigation (Pearce & Others v Secretary of State for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy Limited [2018] EWHC 2009 (QB)) and the British Steel Coke Workers Group Litigation (Hutson & Others v TATA Steel UK Limited). James presently leads the investigation into a group of claims of over 65 workers and their families who allege that they suffer with skin cancers and respiratory disease as a result of their employment at British Coal’s “Homefire” smokeless fuel plant in Coventry (Armstrong & others v Secretary of State for Business, Energy & Industrial Strategy).
James is current Joint Co-ordinator of APIL’s Multi-Party Actions special interest group. James is also an active member of the Collective Redress Lawyers Association which aims to share best practice among those involved in claimant group litigation.
