Head of Early Notification (Legal), NHS Resolution
Sangita was appointed as Head of Early Notification (Legal) in May 2019 for NHS Resolution, an innovative scheme managing cases of severe brain injury at birth. Sangita qualified as a solicitor in May 2008 and has a broad range of legal experience.
Sangita has worked across several commercial sectors and gained expertise in claims management within the travel sector before moving into healthcare in 2014 as a senior advisor for an independent provider of NHS contracts. In 2017, Sangita led the legal services department at Guy’s & St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust where she worked closely with clinicians and the Executive team, providing legal advice in areas such as complex patient discharge, consent and capacity, mental health, data protection, claims management and provided representation at inquests.
Sangita has led on the evolution of the Early Notification Scheme since 2019 and co-authored the second EN report (September 2022). Since joining, Sangita’s team introduced an innovative expert summit process, made changes to the EN reporting criteria to focus on babies most severely impacted and has seen a reduction in time between the incident occurring and a decision on liability being made, with an associated reduction in costs compared to a traditional claims’ investigation. Early Notification has helped encourage trusts to be open about incidents with families and optimise opportunities to learn. The EN team now also engage directly with families and have set up a Maternity Voices Advisory Group to build closer links with families and support the development of the scheme.
Sangita has an open-door policy and leads a varied team. She has a passion for raising awareness on the importance of learning from claims, maternity safety and has a special interest in Equality, Diversity and Inclusion, taking opportunities to speak on topics of interest to inspire the next generation.
She lives in Bedfordshire with her Chief Pharmacist husband and identical twin boys.
